Conjunctival Muller's Muscle Resection
Transcript
Conjunctival Mueller's muscle resection. A four oh silk suture is passed through the eyelid margin and the lid is averted over a DeMar retractor. Additional anesthetic is then injected sub conjunctival. The amount of resection determined preoperatively is then measured with calipers and marked with cautery. A putterman clamp is used to grasp the conjunctiva and Mueller's muscle to be resected. A double arm, six zone plain gut suture is passed underneath the putterman clamp along the length of the resection. A 15 blade is then used to excise the conjunctiva and mueller's muscle. The second arm of the suture is then used to reapproximate the cut edges of the conjunctiva and mueller's muscle. At the end of the incision, the knot is buried to avoid postoperative corneal irritation.
