Red Top Testing

The color red is very sensitive in determining any difference in optic nerve function between the two eyes. The top of a dilating drop is a convenient device to use. The patient is asked to look at the red top, and udder is then used to cover each eye separately. The patient is asked to determine if there's any difference in the appearance of the red color between the two eyes,
in particular, the brightness of the color.
